How it works

Share what you know. Discover what you don’t.

You don’t need to be a professional teacher. Start with a skill you’re comfortable sharing, find someone you can learn from, and agree an exchange that suits you both.

  1. Make it yours

Create your free profile and select the skills you can share and the ones you want to learn. Add your location, languages, preferences and availability to help others understand what might work. You can update your skills later or add a skill that isn’t listed.

  2. Find a complementary skill

Explore members in your community. A two-way match means each of you offers something the other wants to learn. You can also request a one-way session for a skill a member offers — it doesn’t have to be on your own learning list.

  3. Turn a request into an exchange

Send a request, then use your private conversation to agree the details. After acceptance, record the arrangements for each session. Meet online or in person as agreed, and both confirm when the session is complete. Reciprocal exchanges have two separately confirmed sessions.

  4. See your learning take shape

Once an exchange is completed, it contributes to your Skills Passport: skills learned, skills shared, completed exchanges and countries connected through your partners. It reflects completed exchanges, not requests or plans.

Two ways to exchange

Always free · No credits

Reciprocal exchange

You teach something your partner wants to learn, and they teach something you want to learn. Each selected skill must match your profiles. Neither of you spends credits — even if your two sessions happen on different days.

1 credit · One-way learning

Learn from someone

If there isn’t a reciprocal match, the learner needs 1 available credit. That credit is reserved when the request is sent. The teacher earns 1 credit after both members confirm completion. Declined requests and eligible cancellations return the reserved credit.

A little more about credits

Global membership starts with zero credits. You can exchange reciprocally for free or earn credits by teaching one-way sessions. Fixed one-off purchase packages are 1 credit (£1.99), 3 (£4.99), 8 (£9.99) and 20 (£19.99). Purchased credits do not expire.

Before your first exchange

Can exchanges happen online or in person?

Both are possible. Members choose their preferences and agree an arrangement that suits them. Availability depends on the people, skills and locations involved; a particular exchange is not guaranteed.

How do I arrange an exchange?

Discover a member, send a swap request, and use your private conversation to agree the details. Once accepted, you can record a date, online or in-person format, location or link, and notes. Each session in a reciprocal swap is arranged separately.

What is the Skills Passport?

It is your record of completed exchanges: skills learned, skills shared, completed swaps and countries connected through your exchange partners. Pending or cancelled swaps do not count. It is a personal learning record, not a formal qualification.
