1. Who we are
Motive Works Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company number 16463206), operates Skill x Swap and is responsible for personal data used to run the platform. For privacy questions or rights requests, email hello@skillxswap.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect account details such as name, email, login identifiers and age eligibility confirmation; profile details you choose to provide such as photo, bio, location and skills; community membership; swap requests, confirmations and history; messages and notification events; credit wallet transactions; purchase references and payment status; support correspondence; and technical and security information needed to operate the service. We do not need your full payment-card details to operate your wallet; card payments are handled by our payment processor.
3. How and why we use it
We use personal data to create and manage accounts, display profiles to relevant members, find potential exchanges, support messaging, process swaps and credits, provide support and manage purchases. Our lawful basis is normally performance of our contract with you. We also use limited data for security, abuse prevention, service reliability and dispute handling based on legitimate interests, where appropriate. We retain financial records and respond to lawful requests where required by law. If we introduce optional marketing or non-essential tracking requiring consent, we will ask separately; agreeing to our Terms is not consent to optional marketing.
4. Who sees your information
Other members may see the profile details you share in the relevant community and information exchanged directly with them. The people you message can see those messages. Global and Workplace accounts are separate; an organisation does not automatically gain access to your personal Global profile, messages or exchanges. We may use hosting, authentication, payment and email-delivery providers to operate the service, subject to appropriate contractual and security protections. We do not sell personal data to advertisers. We may disclose information when legally required or reasonably necessary to address serious abuse or protect rights.
5. International participation
Skill x Swap connects people across countries. Profile details you make available and information you share with exchange partners may therefore be viewed by people outside the UK. Some service providers may process information internationally. Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, we use an appropriate lawful mechanism.
6. How long we keep data
We keep account and exchange information while needed to provide the service. After an account closure request, we delete or anonymise information that is no longer required, while retaining limited records where necessary for tax, accounting, security, legal claims or disputes. Payment and accounting records may be retained for statutory periods. Backup copies may persist for a limited period before routine deletion. We do not keep personal data indefinitely simply because an account once existed.
7. Your choices and rights
You may request access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability where applicable. Email hello@skillxswap.com; we may need to verify your identity. We normally respond within one month, subject to lawful extensions or exemptions. Account deletion and data export are handled by support rather than a self-service feature at launch. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Security and children
We use access controls and other appropriate measures to protect information, but no online system is risk-free. Protect your login and report suspected misuse. Skill x Swap is for adults aged 18 and over.
