Terms of Use & Credit Purchases

1. About Skill x Swap
Skill x Swap is operated by Motive Works Ltd (company number 16463206), registered in England and Wales. Contact us at hello@skillxswap.com. These terms apply to the Skill x Swap website and member platform. By creating an account you agree to these terms. You must be 18 or older.
2. Accounts and communities
Provide accurate information, keep your login secure and do not impersonate others. A personal Global account and a Workplace or Programme account are separate accounts with separate email addresses and profiles. Access to Workplace or Programme communities may depend on an invitation or an organisation’s arrangements. An employer does not gain access to a member’s separate Global account merely because that person also joins a Workplace community.
3. What Skill x Swap does
Skill x Swap helps adults find one another to teach and learn skills. Members agree the content, timing and format of their exchanges. We are not the teacher, employer, professional adviser, accreditation body or guarantor of any member’s expertise, qualifications, identity, conduct or learning outcome. Members should use their own judgement and take sensible precautions, particularly for in-person meetings or activities involving physical risk.
4. Swaps and credits
Reciprocal exchanges, where both participants teach and learn, do not cost credits. A one-way learning exchange costs the learner one credit; a completed one-way teaching exchange earns the teacher one credit. For one-way requests, a credit is reserved when the request is made. If the request is declined or an uncompleted exchange is cancelled, the reservation is released. Credits are settled when the platform’s completion confirmations are satisfied. If you disagree about completion, contact support. Do not falsely confirm an exchange.
5. Buying credits
Global members may buy credits in one-off packages: 1 for £1.99; 3 for £4.99; 8 for £9.99; or 20 for £19.99. There is no subscription. The total payable amount, including any applicable tax, is displayed before purchase. Credits have no fixed expiry while your account remains active. Credits are not cash, earn no interest, cannot be exchanged for cash and cannot be sold or transferred except through the platform’s supported exchange rules. We may change prices for future purchases, not completed purchases.
6. Cancellation and refunds
If you wish to cancel a credit purchase or request a refund, email hello@skillxswap.com with your account email and purchase details. Refunds are handled manually on request, not automatically. We honour applicable statutory cancellation and consumer rights, including where a valid cancellation request relates to unused purchased credits. We also consider other requests individually. We do not treat delivery of credits into a wallet as an automatic waiver of statutory cancellation rights. Any statutory exception to cancellation rights will only be applied where its legal conditions, including required pre-purchase information and express acknowledgements where applicable, have been met. If credits have been used, we will assess the request against applicable law and the circumstances. Cancellation of an uncompleted swap releases a reserved credit; it is not itself a refund of a credit purchase. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under consumer law.
7. Community rules and safety
Be respectful and honest. Do not harass, threaten, discriminate, spam, exploit, pressure or deceive other members; share unlawful or infringing content; solicit unsafe or unlawful activities; misuse personal information; or manipulate swaps or credits. Only offer skills you can teach lawfully and safely. Do not present informal exchanges as professional certification or regulated advice. Do not publish another member’s private information or record an exchange without permission. Members must be at least 18.
8. Reports, disputes and enforcement
Report inappropriate conduct, safety concerns, swap disputes or account problems to hello@skillxswap.com. Include relevant details, but never passwords or full card details. We may investigate, remove content, restrict access or suspend accounts where reasonably necessary to protect members, comply with law or enforce these terms. We aim to act fairly, but may act promptly where safety requires it. For immediate danger, contact emergency services.
9. Content and ownership
You retain ownership of content you create. You permit us to store, display and process it as needed to operate the service, subject to our Privacy Notice. You must have permission to share content you upload. Skill x Swap branding, software and design remain protected by their respective intellectual property rights.
10. Availability, liability and ending membership
We work to provide a reliable platform but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, successful matches or any particular exchange outcome. We are responsible for our own legal obligations. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. You may request account closure by emailing hello@skillxswap.com; we will handle personal data and any remaining purchased-credit rights in accordance with law and our Privacy Notice.
11. Changes and law
We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service or law and will give appropriate notice of material changes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to mandatory consumer protections that may apply where you live. For questions or complaints, email hello@skillxswap.com.
